Finish up week...

 Hi Everyone,

We don't have the luxury of going over next week-end as class officially ends on Wed, June 30.  The last project is the portrait assignment.  The intent is for you to do a close up portrait, with the face relaxed, using window light that gives directional light to the face.  No snapshots, smiley pictures, out door shots, etc.  If you don't have a person to work with, pets are allowed but they are harder.  Take time to let the person being photographed settle down and open their face.  Patience is called for here.  Don't shoot into the source of light.

I will be doing the grading a day or two after the end of the class...

Take a look at these examples.

This was a simple Google images search "Window light portrait photography"  Notice how the shape of the person is composed in the frame.  Look at how light falls on the face.  Most are done with indirect light, not sunlight directly on the face.  Put your strongest 6 here and put the rest of your session on your Drive.

Take a look at these images (mostly editorial) shot this past week for the solstice.  Notice how composition, light and color plays a leading role in each shot.  To be able to do most of these, you would need to use a variety of lenses not available to you using your phone.  Some of the shots involve long or short time, also hard to impossible to do on a phone.... Almost all were taken this past week.

Remember that there are 5 assignments.  Look back to the beginning of the blog to see my post about that with examples.  Seeing your original files on your Drive is an important part of the class.  Organizing your original images and edits into folders is a help for me in the grading process...

Summary:

5 assignments, 6-10 edits for each, showing an understanding how light and  focal point come together.  50 images shot for each assignment placed in Google drive along with the edits in separate folders.  More than this is always welcome.
