Shawdows & Light

  1. This is a good series. I do like the first one very much. The long shadows cast by the people intersecting with the lines and cracks in the pavement and the angle with everything skewed makes for a visually complicated but very interesting image. As I commented above one has to be careful not to push the contrast and saturation so hard as to break the image. Number two is an example of that. Notice how the shadow cast by the tree is blocked up and solid black and the intensity of the blue and green a bit much? One of the goals of this class is to learn excellence in editing through a straight approach rather than a exaggerated or pushed approach.

I wish the shadows were not as dark also in number three. I'll bet you the original is better. It's really nice in terms of design though. Number four is well composed but has strange color again perhaps from the editing. Number five is good. Again I like the strong composition of the geometry of the sidewalk elements, the looking down perspective and the interesting shadow. Nice composition and one-point perspective in number six. Number seven is too bright and blown out. I do like the composition though. Number eight is too cyan. Be careful about shooting pictures while driving! Nine has potential but it isn't quite sharp. And 10 is lovely in terms of the way the light is coming through the blinds but I did notice that I like the original much better rather than the edited version. It's the same issue again not to block up the blacks and oversaturated the colors.
